Melbourne's population is set to double by 2041. We need a council with a plan.

Melbourne's population will double by 2041. Managing this population boom will require a City of Melbourne Council with a robust strategic plan. 📝

While this plan must be created and costed with extensive expert consultation, it also absolutely must work for everyone, including families, people living with disabilities, and people with varying economic and life circumstances.

What’s that plan?

✅ Our Active Transport and Congestion Busting Policy. ✅

Under this policy, Team Hakim will:

➡️ Conduct a traffic and congestion review in partnership with the Victorian Government. The review will explore strategies to divert heavy vehicles and alleviate bottlenecks, especially in Southbank.

➡️ Create more pedestrian scramble crossings. Inspired by successful models in Tokyo and London, we will create multiple pedestrian scramble crossings, which will enhance safety by stopping vehicle traffic in all directions.

➡️ Revamp loading zones by introducing a flexible permit system for businesses to ease delivery access, increasing availability and integrating technology for hassle-free parking.

➡️ Advocate for free public transport during peak hours, reducing road congestion and increasing customers for local businesses.

➡️ Extend the Elizabeth Street tram, reducing crime and enhancing public transport connections.

➡️ Enhance cycling infrastructure by completing the cycling network with better lighting, signage, and public education on road safety.

➡️ Improve e-scooter safety by implementing regulations, including designated lanes, parking and enforcement and accountability measures.

➡️ Improve accessibility to public spaces by reviewing and upgrading footpaths, ramps, and signage for better access for parents and individuals with disabilities.

Because with Team Hakim, equality, inclusion, and accessibility will never be out of the question.
